Now that my daughter is getting older (three this year!) the holidays are just that much more fun! The talk of santa, reindeer, christmas lights, and fun holiday crafts adds so much magic to this season.

With a love of deer in general (Michigan hunting season is in full swing and she is constantly looking in the woods and yard for deer!) I thought we could add some extra magic to Christmas Eve with a special treat for Santa’s reindeer.

What To Do With Reindeer Dust?

This reindeer food is a special treat for the reindeer as they work extra hard christmas eve! Santa comes in for his milk and cookies and the reindeer wait patiently and eat up the reindeer dust we sprinkle on the front lawn for them.

You can make this reindeer food is extra special by adding glitter sprinkles to the mix. The glitter will sprinkle in the moonlight and make sure Santa’s reindeer see and stop at your house! (All of this is much more magical if snow is on the ground… but you can make it extra exciting either way!)

How to Make Magic Reindeer Dust

Time needed: 5 minutes.

Making magic reindeer dust can be a fun holiday activity with the kids to sprinkle on the front lawn Christmas Eve for a Special Treat for Santa! The Kids can easily make extra to hand out to their friends too!

  1. Make the Reindeer Food

Mix 1/2 cup of oatmeal (quick oats work best) and your child’s favorite holiday sprinkles. Be sure to include glitter sprinkles so the reindeer food sparkles for Santa’s Reindeer to find!

  2. Pack the reindeer dust to save or give away

If giving away for a goody to other children: Add the mixture to a ziplock bag and staple the FREE printable Reindeer Dust Label to the top of the bag.

  3. On Christmas Eve..

Have your child sprinkle the mixture on the front lawn as a special treat for Santa’s Reindeer. The reindeer will see the sprinkles glittering on the lawn to find your house and enjoy their treat while Santa leaves presents inside and finds his own milk and cookies!
