Smoothies are such a great way to make sure you are getting a filling and satisfying breakfast in on busy mornings, a recovery drink post workout OR a healthy and energizing pick-me-up mid afternoon.

So basically anytime is smoothie time.

This chocolate cherry smoothie recipe is jam packed with good-for-you ingredients but tastes like a seriously decadent treat. Did I mention it has ZERO added sugars?

Fruit is the natural sweetener here and it takes its role very seriously.

Making Your Chocolate Cherry Smoothie

The best part about smoothies is that they are so easy to make- toss everything in the blender and in a couple of minutes you are ready to go. This one is no different.

While it is easy peasy by itself, here are some tips to help you along:

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

Spinach. If you don’t eat a lot of spinach, do what I do to keep it “fresh” and store the bag or box of washed spinach in the freezer. While I wouldn’t make a salad with the frozen spinach, it works perfectly for smoothies. Don’t have it? Just skip it and your chocolate cherry smoothie will still taste amazing.

Cherries. Frozen cherries help make this smoothie a bit more “chill”, but you can absolutely use fresh cherries here if you have them. Just remove the pits and toss them in.

Hemp seeds. I can’t say enough about hemp seeds. They are a nutrient powerhouse-full of protein, fiber and healthy fats! If you don’t have them on hand you can add in 2 tbsp of chia seeds or flax seeds to help make up the difference in nutrients.

How To Make You Chocolate Cherry Smoothie Vegan

The only ingredient here that you will need to substitute to make this recipe vegan-friendly is the greek yogurt. Instead of greek yogurt, just toss in a scoop of your favorite vegan protein powder. If you use a chocolate protein powder, you can likely omit or reduce the cocoa powder.
